With the transducer placed transversely over the medial aspect of the knee, and 2 cm above the patella, the round anechoic popliteal vessels can be identified between the hyperechoic femoral shaft (superficially), and the hyperechoic TN and CPN (deep). The vastus medialis and sartorius muscles are located medially and the semimembranosus muscle posteriorly.
